Press release
IN VIA- Media campaign for the ESC 2005 in Kiev
Report how young Ukrainians live.
We will provide subjects, information and contact addresses.
The Grand Prix final in Kiev on the 21st of May is an excellent opportunity to communicate through the media the changing life of people and especially young people in Ukraine. It is also a great chance to tell about exciting topics other than the German visa affair and other scandals.
The IN VIA media campaign “Ukraine: 12 points” offers editorial offices and authors the Internet resource www.junge-ukraine.de with proposed topics, background information and contact addresses on the subject “young Ukraine”. You can find complete articles, which can be adopted from editorial offices, but also topics for reportages.
The web site www.junge-ukraine.de will be presented directly in Kiev at the Eurocamp in the week of the Grand Prix Final. Organisations and the Department for young people welcomes young people from the Ukraine and from all over Europe to the Eurocamp on the river island. From 18th -21th of May, Monika Rosenbaum from IN VIA invites German- and English-speaking journalists at noon daily for background-talks and interviews on the topic “young Ukraine”.

Sociologist and author Monika Rosenbaum composed the subjects and the information about “young Ukraine”. Ms. Rosenbaum is managing a project concerned with setting up au-pair advice centres in Ukraine. She has been investigating the subject in the Ukraine since February. The way in which she put the results together renders it an interesting resource for journalists who want to report about topics beyond the Grand Prix. “Of course, the Grand Prix is an ideal occasion to give background information about the country, but I can also see other reasons. They range from the visa-affair, which is being broadcasted with the same pictures of the embassy in Kiev again and again, and also cover Ukraine’s anniversary on the 24th of August. Ukraine is celebrating its 14th anniversary of independence. Thus it is reaching adolescence, which is also a good reason to introduce young Ukraine to the German public.
What sort of interest does an institution for catholic social work for girls have in a media even about Ukraine? “Every year IN VIA (an institution concerned with social work for girls) finds au-pair positions for some hundred young Ukrainian women and men.” Marianne Schmidle, the manager of the au-pair department explains: “… we would like for people to perceive young au-pairs as ambassadors of their countries. With this, we emphasize our conviction that an au-pair-stay contributes to cross-cultural exchange and mutual understanding. Moreover, Ukraine is a young country, which is faced by many problems and is dealing with those problems in a constructive way. We feel that this is something worth pointing out”.
